Following biochemistry-related equipment is available in our lab and in shared facilities.

Equipment located in our laboratory:

  • Large and small capacity shakers for cell culture
  • Microfluidizer (Microfluidics Corp.) for cell lysis
  • Large capacity high speed centrifuge for pelleting cells and protein purification (Beckman)
  • FPLC system (Biorad NGC) for protein purification and analysis
  • Electrophoresis equipment for DNA and protein separation
  • Gas chromatograph (SRI)
  • Anaerobic chamber (Coy) and Schlenk line for manipulation of air-sensitive proteins
  • 2 UV/vis spectrophotometers: 1 Agilent Cary 60 equipped with an 18-cell changer for protein characterization and 1 Vernier Spectrovis Plus located in the glove bag for measuring absorption spectra anaerobically without having to remove samples from the glove bag
  • Electroporator (Biorad) and multiple temperature controlled incubators for molecular cloning
  • Liquid nitrogen dewars for sample storage
  • 2 workstations (1 PC, 1 Mac) for data analysis software, including crystallography software, and physical and virtual storage for data backup
  • 7L fermenter for cell culture (Lambda instruments)
  • Pipetting robot (Opentrons)

  • Circular dichroism spectrophotometer (Jasco J-1500) with Peltier temperature control and 1.6 mT permanent magnet for magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy.

  • Real time PCR instrument for cloning and mRNA quantification
  • ICP-OES (Agilent) for analysis of metal clusters
  • Proteomics core facility
  • State-of-the-art X-ray diffractometer for macromolecular crystallography (Bruker Metaljet)
  • Liquid handling robot for automated, high throughput crystallization trials
  • Fluorimeter (Horiba) for biophysical characterization of proteins
  • Stopped flow instrument for monitoring rapid kinetics (Applied Photophysics connected to Cary 60 spectrophotometer)
