LOGLINE:
An overbearing mother is forced to confront her empty nest syndrome when her adult son objects to throwing her dog a birthday party.
CHARACTERS:
MIRIAM NASARI (61) is first and foremost a mother. Her traditional Persian family was once at the center of her life, but after her son moved out and her husband divorced her, she finds herself devoid of purpose. She adopted a dog in recent years–a pomeranian named Ginger–and has tried to fill the hole in her life by treating her like another child. Miriam’s thoughtful nature comes off as desperate because she struggles to see from others’ perspectives. She tends to deflect blame for her own unhappiness, but soon learns that she has to look within herself to be happy.
DARIUS NASARI (24) is a recent college graduate who’s just gotten the hang of “adulting.” His parents’ tumultuous marriage made him seek education across the state, where he stayed after school, far away from the drama. Despite his mother’s consistent efforts, Darius struggles to connect with her. Her nagging and guilting has affected his ability to articulate his feelings to people he cares about. Darius may be more emotionally reserved than his mother and may take her love for granted, but deep down he loves her just as much.

LOCATIONS:
INT. Dining Room: Table and chairs in center of the room, sports themed kids birthday party decor. Plastic flowers as a centerpiece.
INT. Entryway: Clean and cared for. Middle class suburban.
INT. Kitchen: Granite countertops. Lots of yellow.
INT. Darius’s Room: The room of a teenage boy. Organized clutter. Darker color palette than the rest of the house.
