On April 20th, the Ferrucci Institute for Italian Experience and Research and the Italian Studies Program, in collaboration with the Institute of Italian Culture in LA and the ISSNAF launched the inaugural annual Day of Italian Research in the World at Chapman University. The event, attended by Chapman students, Ferrucci Institute Fellows, and members of the community, provided an opportunity to discuss the cultural significance and genesis of memorialized Italian figures. The event began with a talk by Dr. Pacchioni examining the process through which the filmmaker Federico Fellini crafted a mythical, yet self-ironic, artist persona through the unique style of his cinema, autobiographical references, and by tackling issues of national identity. Following, three groups of students from Dr. Confalonieri’s advaced Italian Studies course “Masterpieces of Italian Literature,” shared their assessment of iconic places and figures of Italian culture through posters and oral presentations.
