{"id":1183,"date":"2017-01-05T16:30:18","date_gmt":"2017-01-05T16:30:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.chapman.edu\/peacecomm17\/?page_id=3"},"modified":"2017-01-05T16:30:18","modified_gmt":"2017-01-05T16:30:18","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.chapman.edu\/peacecomm2025\/","title":{"rendered":"About Our Course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello, and welcome to the course blog for Peace Communication! \u00a0This is an interdisciplinary travel course for undergraduate and graduate students at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chapman University<\/a>; a medium sized private university in Southern California. \u00a0The instructors for this course are Drs. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/sara-labelle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sara LaBelle<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/lisa-leitz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lisa Leitz<\/a>, Associate Professors in the School of Communication and the Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>This course takes students to various locations to analyze the communication strategies of organizations that pursue peace and social justice, situating this communication within the specific history and culture of the area.\u00a0 This summer, we are partnering with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cielglobal.org\/\">Center for International Experiential Learning<\/a> to visit Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW55198691 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55198691 BCX0\">During the Summer 2025 session, students will visit historical, cultural, and political sites of importance in Belfast, Derry\/Londonderry, and Dublin (as well as the border regions and the Antrim Coast) for <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55198691 BCX0\">an immersive course examining the region\u2019s complex history and evolving peace process. This unique experiential learning opportunity offers direct engagement with politicians, community leaders, NGOs, and others to provide a comprehensive understanding of the conflict\u2019s lasting impact. Students will learn about and critically consider topics such as segregation, gender, policing, transgenerational trauma, and economics as they relate to peacebuilding and reconciliation.
