Dr. Confalonieri taught an Italian language course, participated in various on-campus activities, and began mentoring a student selected as an Emerging Creative Scholar at the Ferrucci Institute for Italian Experience and Research.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of Chapman, Dr. Confalonieri presented a paper on architecture and time in Torquato Tasso&#8217;s \u201cGerusalemme Liberata\u201d at the annual conference of the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA) held in Palm Springs (November 7-10). He also worked on various research projects and publications, some of which were released in recent months, with others expected to be published in early 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Since August, he has published an essay in \u201cStudi Culturali\u201d \u2013 the most important Italian journal of Cultural Studies, published by Il Mulino \u2013 titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rivisteweb.it\/doi\/10.1405\/114327\">\u201cKnowing and Believing: The Flood of the Po River in History, Literature, and Popular Culture.\u201d<\/a> Additionally, he published an article entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.italianisti.it\/pubblicazioni\/atti-di-congresso\/scenari-del-conflitto\/ADISD_2022_Confalonieri%20Corrado.pdf\">\u201cIl Gadda di Gifuni tra guerra, storia e filosofia della storia\u201d<\/a> in the proceedings of a conference held in Naples in 2023, and two essays on Ariosto: one providing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.academia.edu\/124660949\/Glocal_Ariosto_In_viaggio_tra_la_Terra_lEmilia_e_la_Luna?email_work_card=thumbnail\">an overview<\/a> of international scholarship dedicated to <em>Orlando Furioso<\/em> and the other on the Mauriziano, the house of Ariosto\u2019s family in Reggio Emilia, exploring its reality and literary representation. Among these are an essay titled \u201cTorquato Tasso, Ludovico Ariosto, and \u2018the small wins\u2019: Chess, Poetry, and Philosophy of History\u201d for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.libraweb.net\/riviste.php?chiave=108\">\u201cSchifanoia,\u201d<\/a> the journal of the Istituto di Studi Rinascimentali in Ferrara; a chapter dedicated to irony and harmony in \u201cOrlando Furioso\u201d in a collective volume on Ariosto to be published by Carocci; and a dialogue on Ariosto with Daniel Javitch, Professor Emeritus of Comparative Literature at NYU and author of \u201cProclaiming a Classic: The Canonization of Orlando Furioso,\u201d for a new journal also published by Il Mulino, \u201cITER\u201d (Immagini e Testi per l\u2019Europa del Rinascimento).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to essays, Dr. Confalonieri was invited to write reviews for \u201cItalian Culture\u201d and \u201cRenaissance Quarterly,\u201d and he has co-edited the review section of \u201cBetween,\u201d the journal of the Italian Association for the Theory and Comparative History of Literature, where he is part of the editorial board. In the latest issue of \u201cBetween,\u201d Dr. Confalonieri also wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/ojs.unica.it\/index.php\/between\/article\/view\/6410\/6196\">a review-essay<\/a> of a book dedicated to the invention of the entrelacement in the Middle Ages (<em>L\u2019invenzione dell\u2019intreccio. La svolta medievale nell\u2019arte narrativa <\/em>by Claudio Lagomarsini).<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the semester at Chapman, Dr. Confalonieri, together with Emilio Russo, Professor of Italian Literature at the Sapienza Universit\u00e0 di Roma, has organized <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsa.org\/news\/688780\/Conference-Trame-tassiane.-Per-uno-studio-dellintertestualit-nella-Gerusalemme-Liberata-.htm\">\u201cTrame tassiane. Per uno studio dell\u2019intertestualit\u00e0 nella <em>Gerusalemme liberata<\/em>,\u201d<\/a> a conference on intertextuality in <em>Gerusalemme Liberata<\/em> that brings together several of leading Tasso scholars internationally. The conference will be held in Rome, at the Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medio Evo, from Monday, and Dr. Confalonieri will give the inaugural lecture dedicated to intertextuality and literary theory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.chapman.edu\/pacchioni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/12\/Trame1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2264 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.chapman.edu\/pacchioni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/12\/Trame1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"258\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a>In January 2025, before returning to California, Dr. Confalonieri will make a stop in Germany, where he has been invited to give a lecture on Renaissance epic for graduate students at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universit\u00e4t Erlangen-N\u00fcrnberg (January 14) and to present his book <em>Torquato Tasso e il desiderio di unit\u00e0. La Gerusalemme liberata e una nuova teoria dell\u2019epica<\/em> at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universit\u00e4t M\u00fcnchen in a discussion with Florian Mehltretter (LMU M\u00fcnchen), Christian Rivoletti (FAU Erlangen-N\u00fcrnberg), and Francesco Lucioli (Sapienza Universit\u00e0 di Roma) on January 15.<\/p>\n<p>This will be the tenth presentation of the book since its release in September 2022, following those held in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZUhZUv0iJVw&amp;t=9s\">Sorrento<\/a> (December 2022), Sapienza Universit\u00e0 di Roma (January 2023), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=K8b7uFx923Q&amp;t=6s\">Centro di Studi Tassiani in Bergamo<\/a>, Universitat de Val\u00e8ncia (March 2023), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LAV54oPA1VI&amp;t=1785s\">New York University<\/a>, Harvard University, University of Genoa, <a href=\"https:\/\/newbooksnetwork.com\/corrado-confalonieri-torquato-tasso-and-the-desire-for-unity-jerusalem-delivered-and-a-new-theory-of-the-epic-carocci-editore-2022\">New Books Network Podcast<\/a> (April 2023), and at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SsgkZGjeGfI&amp;t=4468s\">Istituto di Studi Rinascimentali in Ferrara<\/a> (April 2024).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fall 2024 marked the first semester at Chapman University for Corrado Confalonieri, the inaugural Bernardino Telesio Endowed Professor of Italian Studies.
