{"id":2145,"date":"2024-02-11T18:31:51","date_gmt":"2024-02-12T02:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.chapman.edu\/pacchioni\/?p=2145"},"modified":"2025-10-10T15:29:46","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T15:29:46","slug":"ferrucci-fellow-dr-marco-panza-honored-with-new-endowed-chair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.chapman.edu\/pacchioni\/2024\/02\/11\/ferrucci-fellow-dr-marco-panza-honored-with-new-endowed-chair\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferrucci Fellow Dr. Marco Panza Honored with New Endowed Chair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">During a recent\u00a0conference\u00a0to celebrate\u00a0Chapman\u2019s new\u00a0Doctor of Science in Mathematics, Philosophy and Physics\u00a0(MPP), Chapman University Dr. Marco Panza, the program\u2019s founding director, was awarded the new Kennedy Chair in Philosophy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">When asked about how growing up and being educated in Italy influenced his thinking and work, Dr. Panza expressed his debt toward two types of school: \u201cmy Italian high school, Il Liceo Scientifico Galileo Ferraris of Varese,\u201d and \u201cthe PCI of the 1970s, which was a real school of life for me, independently of the specific political ideas.\u201d Dr. Panza also likes to recall how influential it was for him the fact that \u201chistoricism and analytical philosophy were discussed jointly in Italian academia,\u201d namely \u201cthe idea that there is no philosophy without a history of philosophy and no mathematics without a history\u00a0of mathematics (though they remain different things).\u201d Finally, he fondly acknowledges \u201cthe sense of friendship, where an intellectual collaboration is firstly\u00a0an experience\u00a0of life.\u201d These influences are examples of Italian intellectual legacies that have flowed into the inception and conceptualization of the idea for MPP, for which Dr. Panza also acknowledged Benedetto Croce and Federigo Enriques, two key figures for him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">With the newly established endowed chair, Dr. Panza intends to reinforce a community of scholars and friends.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Below, Dr. Panza, the first one to the left, during the ceremony.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.chapman.edu\/pacchioni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/02\/Unknown-0b93de95ccea893c-1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2147 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.chapman.edu\/pacchioni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/02\/Unknown-0b93de95ccea893c-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"426\" height=\"283\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During a recent\u00a0conference\u00a0to celebrate\u00a0Chapman\u2019s new\u00a0Doctor of Science in Mathematics, Philosophy and Physics\u00a0(MPP), Chapman University Dr. Marco Panza, the program\u2019s founding director, was awarded the new Kennedy Chair in Philosophy.
