Several teachers of Italian from Southern California attended the professional training workshop led by Dr. Clorinda Donato at Chapman University on Saturday. The 3-hour workshop offered a fascinating look at current research and practice in third-language acquisition, a field of growing interest in language-teaching pedagogy in the United States, and in Southern California in particular.

The instructors who attended came from various institutions from around Southern California, such as: Pepperdine University, California State University Long Beach, Santiago Canyon College, Mt San Antonio College, Baxter High School, Spectrum Languages, and Fondazione Italia. The workshop was made possible by generous contributions from the Italian Studies Council.

A look at the critical challenges of today’s Italian society with Dr. Clarissa Clò on November 12

“Italy Love it or Leave it: Gustav Hofer and Luca Ragazzi’s Film Trilogy”
Gustav Hofer and Luca Ragazzi’s documentaries reflect on some of the critical challenges of today’s Italian society, from the country’s backward civil legislation preventing LGBTQ rights to the poor working conditions and opportunities for youth, women and immigrants, to the transformation and disorientation of leftist politics. At the center of all three projects is the experimentation with an inventive and innovative cinematic style testifying a renewed interest in documentary genre in Italian cinema.
