2017 MEMBERS:
Dory Ann Carter. Dory Ann is a Sophomore, pursuing a Communication Studies Major with a double minor in Women’s Studies and the University Honors Program. She’s originally from Charlotte, North Carolina but moved out to Orange, CA to attend Chapman . Ideally, she wants to combine her passion for social justice and the media industry to pursue a career dedicated to empowering women through different media platforms.
Allie Hoffman. Allie is pursuing a B.A. in Communication Studies and is expected to graduate in December of 2017. Allie was fortunate to intern with the Sesame Street Workshop and has experience as a camp counselor. She hopes to one day work for an organization that prides itself on putting forth positive messages in the media. While most of her collegiate research has focused on media effects on young women and eating disorders, Allie welcomed the opportunity to learn about a different vulnerable population and the chance to make a tangible difference.
Suman Rizvi. Suman is graduating with a B.A. in Communication Studies and a minor in Public Relations. After interning at a few different places, she fell in love with entertainment PR and hopes to continue working in this field. Outside of school and work, you can find her enjoying life with her loved ones and traveling the world.
Jillian Picado. Jillian is a senior studying Communication and Latin American Studies at Chapman University. She is fascinated about how we consume and interpret media, the effect it has on us as consumers, and how the media tailor messages to produce the most impact. Jillian has taken a variety of courses in media studies, including: Mass Communication, Theories of Persuasion, Introduction to Psychology, Mass Communication Theory, and Social Media and Contemporary Society. These courses, combined with her understanding and appreciation of Latin American culture, have prepared her to research the effects of media on children, the importance of media literacy, and delivering that information to parents and guardians from the Latin American community.
Mary Russ. Mary Russ is a Communication Studies major at Chapman University. She plans to attend Law School and is incredibly passionate about litigation to protect children, especially in regards to the media.
Katie Russell. Katie is a junior Communication Studies Major with a minor in Holocaust History. She is interested in working in and with history museums in order to broaden and increase their audience. She is interested in how people interpret media and learn from the different forms of media they see on a daily basis.
Nina Walter. Nina is a senior at Chapman University, studying Communication Studies and Foreign Languages. Besides being an international student who is passionate about communication, psychology and culture, Nina is interested in pursuing a career in global marketing. This project offers her the opportunity to apply both her knowledge in communications and media while using her knowledge of Spanish to pass on this knowledge to families in the local community.
Jennifer Wind. Jenn is a junior at Chapman University majoring in communication studies and pursuing a minor in LGBTQIA+ studies. Within Jenn’s major she has chosen courses that emphasize communication with and within mass media because she has a passion for popular culture, it’s influence on society, and how the media plays a part in that influence. She has completed courses in Persuasion, Mass Communications, Mass Communication Theory, Social Media and Contemporary Society, Fundamentals of Marketing, and Principles of Public Relations, and had an internship position in a media production and distribution company in Los Angeles.

2015 MEMBERS:
Whitney Carroll. Whitney is a communication studies major at Chapman University. Whitney plans to go into the education field after college, teaching 3rd grade. Whitney is a Southern California native and grew up in Los Angeles.
Katie Smith. Katie is studying Communication at Chapman university and is interested in the media and working in the television industry. She is interested in learning about media effects and using this knowledge to promote a positive change in how people consume entertainment, advertising and other forms of media. Originally from Fernando Valley, she loves to be outdoors, spend time with family and, of course, watch television.
Gaby Strnad. Gaby is a senior at Chapman University, graduating with a B.A. in Communication Studies and a minor in Nutrition. Born and raised in Colorado, she is a lover of all things outdoors, and especially enjoys hiking and backpacking. Her background in media literacy studies and event planning have given her the skills and interest in developing this media literacy program. During her free time, Gaby is passionate about cooking, baking, and basically everything food related.
Katelyn Ashby. Katelyn is a senior at Chapman University, graduating with a B.A. in Communication Studies and a minor in Advertising. Native to Southern California and raised in a small town by the ocean, she enjoys all things relating to the beach, especially sand volleyball. In her spare time she loves hanging out with her family and friends and hiking.
James Johnson. James spent 5 years in the United States Marine Corps. He currently lives in Tustin, CA and is pursuing a Bachelor’s in Communication Studies from Chapman University. Upon completing his degree he plans to move to Oregon with his fiance and child.
Annabelle Bosch. Annabelle is originally from Seattle, Washington, currently a senior at Chapman University. She is a communication studies major and a peace studies minor. She is passionate about helping others educate themselves and further educating herself on the endless topics involved in communication studies.
Rylee Boland. Rylee is a Senior at Chapman University with a Major in Communication Studies and a Minor in Public Relations. She is from San Diego, CA, where she learned to swim and play water polo. At Chapman, she played on the women’s water polo team for two years before leaving to study Communication in Florence, Italy last semester.
