Welcome to the website of the Biomimetics and Molecular Engineering Laboratory (BMEL).  The laboratory, run by principal investigator Dr. Kamaljit Kaur, is located on the second floor of the Harry and Diane Rinker Health Science Campus (9501 Jeronimo Road) Building.

BMEL provides a comprehensive facility for translation of rational drug design ideas from conception to synthesis and in vitro/in vivo testing. The state-of-the-art equipment allows biomolecular design, peptide engineering, and use of techniques like SPOT synthesis, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, fluorescence imaging, cell culture and cancer xenografts in mice models.

Current research projects in the lab include:

  • Peptide-Drug Conjugates (PDCs) for the treatment of breast, ovarian, uterine and cervical cancers
  • Targeted immunotherapy conjugates for melanoma
  • Amylin receptor antagonists as a therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer’s disease (AD)

BMEL acknowledges the generous support from the NIH-National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the School of Pharmacy, Chapman University.
