1. Introduction 
  • Name, Role, Educational and Career Background. 

My name is Susan Mikhail, a third-year Ph.D. student in Computational and Data Science at Chapman University. I have a diverse background, having studied Civil Engineering overseas and Finance and Statistics at UC Irvine. Before joining Chapman, I earned my Master of Science in Business Analytics from UCI’s Paul Merage School of Business. 

 

  • Research interests – past, present, and Future. 

I am extremely interested in machine learning, predictive analytics, and solving optimization problems. Before joining the Earth Science lab, I analyzed business and economics data to reduce costs and increase revenue. Currently, I am using migration census data, extreme weather information, and other demographic and health-related information to understand the factors that influence people’s decisions to stay in a certain region or move to other places. 

 

  • Hobbies and Extracurriculars. 

In addition to my academic pursuits, I am very passionate about interior design, fashion design, and creative art in general. I also enjoy soft music, opera, and creative art shows. I love animals and have adopted two rescue dogs. I have a passion for traveling, history, and learning about other cultures.
