Contradictions

Contradictions, my third book, which paints in various hues my deepening engagement with Daoism, is available from Shanti Arts here. Poems from the project can be found at Charge Magazine, at Plum Tree Tavern, and at Tuck Magazine.

This book’s title announces that it is a concept album. Contradictions have fascinated me for decades: Whitman says we are all a bundle of contradictions, and these contradictions are what makes democratic culture so vibrant. I believe that. And the Marxists I was taught in graduate school say that, to get clarity about capitalist culture, we have to raise to light its hidden contradictions and criticize them fiercely. I believe that too. Hence the playful paradoxes of the book. Violence and water are the motifs.
